My Dad, Don Hayes...

This is my Dad, as I'd like to think of this pic, as of him flying to heaven.  My father died in Dec. of 2008, and I miss him everyday.  He was an original man, no one like him.  He was the best father a man could have.  He was a hard worker and a man of character.  My niece, Kelli ask me to post this as my FB status:

God saw you getting tired & a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you & whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched & saw you pass away. Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

Mark, I do agree this is a wonderful way to share feelings, of all ranges, in an open, trusting place. It's easy to see what a loving, strong connection you had with your dad. And I can only imagine the feelings that may resurface for you during this season. But each year is another opportunity to make this time warm and joyful. Like the Whos in Who-ville, we get to decide how to react, and we should sing! This season I've already made wonderful memories with you and Hogan decorating your house, making banana bread, singing Glee with you.... By the way, I told my sisters and Ali about the Baby It's Cold Outside night and they got a kick out of it! It's easy to be distracted this time of year, but also so easy to see the goodness as well. I wish I could've known your Dad, but I'd be willing to bet he'd love to see your Christmas merry and fun. As I said, I do think your blog is a great way to be open about your thoughts and to share with friends. Your Minnesotan misses you much, and wants you to have a wonderful week. I made cookies today and saved some to bring back for you all. :)
